This year, the University of Illinois is hosting two Weed Science Field Days.

The first is June 24 at the Crop Sciences Research and Education Center in Urbana. The second is part of the July 16 DeKalb Agronomy Day tour.

The June 24 Weed Science Field Day begins with coffee and refreshments under the shade trees near the Seed House at 8 a.m. Similar to past years, participants will carpool to the fields, where they can join in a guided (but informal) tour. The tour will provide ample opportunity to look at research plots and interact with weed science faculty, staff, and graduate students.

Participants can compare their favorite corn and soybean herbicide programs to other commercial programs and get an early look at some new herbicide active ingredients. The tour will conclude around noon with a catered barbeque lunch at the Seed House.

The fee for the tour is $10, which will help defray the cost of the field tour book, refreshments, and lunch. We will apply for 2 hours of CCA credit under the IPM category.

DeKalb's July 16 Weed Science Field Day will begin at 4 p.m. The format will be similar to previous years, and there will be many plots available to view. Refreshments and a weed science tour booklet will be provided, and food will be available for a nominal fee.

U of I staff continues field research work at the Perry and Brownstown research centers, along with a few on-farm locations. No formal weed science tours will be held at these locations, but there are likely to be weed science presentations at the agronomy day field tours scheduled for Perry and Brownstown. Check with your local extension office or the Bulletin for general agronomy field day dates at these locations.

We look forward to visiting with you at the Urbana and DeKalb weed science field days. Please contact U of I at 217-333-4424 for more information.
