Nebraska Wheat Board Has Opening in District 3

Board members determine how checkoff dollars are used for wheat marketing, promotion and research. Filing deadling is June 1.

District 3 on the Nebraska Wheat Board is open for appointment. Larry Flohr of Chappell currently holds that position on the nine-member board. He has indicated he will seek reappointment.

Gov. Dave Heineman will make the appointment from among those seeking to serve on the board in District 3, which covers Deuel, Cherry, Grant, Hooker, Thomas, Arthur, McPherson, Logan, Keith and Perkins counties. The new term will begin July 1, 2012.

The filing deadline for appointment is 5 p.m. CST on June 1, 2012.

Any producer interested in appointment should submit an application to the governor's office for consideration.

Qualified candidates include those who are citizens of Nebraska, are at least 21 years of age, have been actively engaged in growing wheat in Nebraska for at least five years, reside in a county in their respective district and derive a substantial portion of income from producing wheat.

The Nebraska Wheat Board administers the 1/1/4 cent per bushel checkoff fee levied on wheat marketed in Nebraska.

The board invests the funds in programs of international and domestic market development and improvement, policy development, research, promotion and education.
