Wisconsin Farm Technology Days 2017 Host County Announced
Kewaunee County UW-Extension Agriculture Agent Aerica Bjurstrom said to the board, "Agriculture is an extremely important part of Kewaunee County and the county was both excited and prepared to host the show with many individuals and organizations voicing strong support for the show." Bjurstrom went on to explain that she felt the show would not only showcase Kewaunee County's progressive and diverse agriculture industry but also hi-light new technologies that can help agriculture grow and prosper while at the same time protecting the environmental resources that are vitally important to the county.
Located in northeastern Wisconsin just south of Door County along Lake Michigan, Kewaunee County is home to a vibrant agricultural community that employs 25% of the county's workforce. Kewaunee County is located in the heart of eastern Wisconsin's dairy industry and is also highly diversified with beef, cash crops, vegetable production and even vineyards making up its agricultural portfolio.
Matt Glewen, Wisconsin Farm Technology Day general manager, was enthusiastic about the selection. "This is the first time the show has been held in Kewaunee County. I am looking forward to working with the leadership in the county to host a tremendous show".
The 2014 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days will be held Aug. 12-14 near Stevens Point in Portage County at the Feltz Family Farms and Blue Top Farms. Portage County Extension Agriculture Agent Ken Schroeder in addition to alfalfa harvesting field demonstrations, there will also be carrot and potato harvesting field demonstrations.
"Portage County is the No. 1 producer of potatoes, green beans and sweet corn in Wisconsin," Schroeder said. This year's model toy, which will be available during the show, will be a potato harvester.
Schroeder said visitors to the show will enjoy a menu that features sweet corn on the cob, a pork tenderloin sandwich with cranberry chutney and homemade ice cream in addition to traditional farm who favorites.
Other show highlights include an appearance by former Green Bay Packer William Henderson. Visitors can also take in the popular Wisconsin musical comedy "Dairymen the Moosical." It will be performed nightly Aug. 10-13 at the Stevens Point Area High School at 7:30.
The 2015 and 2016 shows will be held in Dane and Walworth counties. The Dane County Show will be held at the Statz Brothers Farm near Sun Prairie Aug. 25-27, 2015. The Walworth County Show will be held July 19-21, 2016, at the Steve Snudden Farm in Zenda near Lake Geneva. Snudden milks 1,000 cows.
