Top Northeast Performance-test Beef Bulls For Sale

Top testing bulls from the Northeast, plus Simmental heifers, to be sold March 29 at Pennsylvania's 40th annual Performance-tested Bull Sale.

Beef producers can buy some of the best genetics in the Northeast during a bull sale at Pennsylvania's Livestock Evaluation Center in Pennsylvania Furnace, Centre County, on Friday, March 29. This 40th annual performance-tested bull sale kicks off at noon.

Consignors will offer 119 bulls – Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Limousin, Red Angus and Simmental, plus crossbreds. Sale day events also include a trade show hosted by the Pennsylvania Cattlemen's Association and a Simmental female sale following the bull sale.

Bulls enrolled in the program completed a 112-day test evaluating average daily gain, weight per day of age, feed efficiency, loin muscle size and fat deposition. They also passed a breeding soundness exam. The top bulls from each breed are:

Angus: Consigned by Finger Lakes Cattle Company of Penn Yan, N.Y.; adjusted yearling weight, 1,563 pounds; average daily gain 5.70 pounds; adjusted loin eye 16.4 square inches; 71 Angus will sell.

Charolais: Consigned by Desco Charolais, Greencastle, Pa.; adjusted yearling weight, 1,073 pounds; average daily gain 3.76 pounds; adjusted loin eye 13.6 square inches; one Charolais will sell.

Hereford: Consigned by Mayer Cattle, East Aurora, N.Y.; adjusted yearling weight, 1,310 pounds; average daily gain 3.79 pounds; adjusted loin eye 15.3 square inches; one Charolais will sell.

Limousin: Consigned by MM&TT Limousin of Arcade, N.Y.; adjusted yearling weight, 1,301 pounds; average daily gain 4.20 pounds; adjusted loin eye 17.1 square inches; one Limousin will sell.

Red Angus: Consigned by Elmwood Fields Farm, Shepherdstown, W.Va.; adjusted yearling weight, 1,286 pounds; average daily gain 5.24 pounds; adjusted loin eye 16.1 square inches; 10 Red Angus will sell.

Simmental:  Consigned by Feights Farm, Breezewood, Pas.; adjusted yearling weight, 1,447 pounds; average daily gain 5.05 pounds; adjusted loin eye 17.4 square inches; 25 Simmentals will sell.

Crossbred: A LimFlex consigned by Sunrise Farm, Attica, N.Y.; adjusted yearling weight, 1,239 pounds; average daily gain 4.47 pounds; adjusted loin eye 15.5 square inches; four crossbreds will sell.
