Peterson Farms Seed has five new corn hybrids and 12 new soybean varieties for 2017.

Because it is an independent company, PFS has the ability to select products from multiple technology providers, including Syngenta, Dow, and Monsanto/Bayer CropScience, says Carl Peterson, president of the family-owned company that is headquartered on the Peterson’s farm near Fargo, N.D.

“Because we live and work right here in this region, we know the ground and the problems growers face. We’re able to offer the best solution for your fields — because our independence allows us to pick and choose the best products from multiple programs.”

The following hybrids and varieties performed strongly and consistently in Peterson’s extensive replicated testing program, and have proven they are worthy to be planted on your farm, Peterson says.

Corn
16S92 Conventional (92-day maturity). Widely adapted across varying environments. Best performance in zones with good southern improvement. Outstanding yielding product with fast drydown. “This new 92-day maturity shows very good early-season vigor with good stress tolerance,” says Danni Sanders, east-central North Dakota/west-central Minnesota account manager.

77P94 VT2PRO (94-day maturity). Excels in-zone and can be pushed north as a full-season hybrid. Best positioned on better soils and responds to high management. “We are really excited about the yield potential of our 77P94 94-day hybrid. It has the horsepower to stand and run with the longer-maturity hybrids,” says Rich Larson, southeast North Dakota account manager.

11W95 Conventional (95-day maturity). High yielder with robust defensive characteristics. Outstanding seedling vigor. Enjoy best yield performance under higher populations.

75S96 VT2PRO (96-day maturity). Known for being a shorty, it has great green snap tolerance and less residue, making it easier to manage in heavy soils. Terrific tolerance and handles lighter soils well, producing more corn in dry years. Good Goss’s wilt tolerance. Very good test weight and late-season health.

72D00 VT2PRO (100-day maturity). Our first DroughtGuard hybrid gives this cross great drought tolerance. Extremely defensive and comes with an attractive fall appearance. Stable performance across a wide range of environments. Potential for early corn, early.

Soybeans — Roundup Ready 2 Extend
17X009 RR2X (00.9 maturity). Excellent fit for those soils outside of the valley. Will excel on your most productive soils. Good iron deficiency chlorosis tolerance.

17X03 RR2X (0.3 maturity). Will be our IDC king! Medium-tall bean with cluster all the way to the top. “If you liked 13R03, this 17X03 RR2X will bring a similar performance with better IDC tolerance,” says Jeff Olson, central North Dakota account manager.

17X04N RR2X (0.4 maturity). Move over 13R03! Rps3a [gene], IDC tolerance and SCN resistance in one package. Very flexible placement across soil types.

17X09N RR2X (0.9 maturity). An excellent choice for your phytophthora-prone soils. Branches and clusters everywhere. Plant on all but the worst IDC soils. “The total package in a bean: soybean cyst, Rps3a and good IDC. All while breaking yield barriers,” says Nick Castro, northeast South Dakota account manager.

17X10N RR2X (1.0 maturity). Rps3a+1c for excellent root health. Best-in-show emergence and standability. “This new Xtend bean stands up to wet ground well and has very good IDC tolerance,” says Rob Thuringer, southeast South Dakota account manager.

17X13 RR2X (1.3 maturity). Rps3a+1c and good IDC tolerance. Moderate resistance for SCN. Big yields across the tristate region in 2015.

17X14N RR2X (1.4 maturity). Excellent IDC tolerance, best bean in 1.0+ maturity. Peking SCO resistance to change up your SCN resistance. Narrower look if you like skinny beans. “If you’re looking for the best bean in the 1.0+ maturity, look no further than this 17X14N Xtend bean. It has excellent IDC tolerance and will definitely impress,” says Rich Larson, southeast North Dakota account manager.

17X17N RR2X (1.7 maturity). A powerful first for this maturity — SCN and Rps3a together in one variety. Lots of options for placement with this complete bean. Excellent IDC tolerance. “Brings soybean cyst and Rps3a together for one of the first times in this maturity. Place anywhere — even on tough IDC ground,” says Kaelin Kyllo, sales agronomist, Hunter, N.D.

17X18N RR2X (1.8 maturity). Excellent standability. First bean we’ve seen with possible white mold tolerance. Average IDC, so watch placement. “Big bean that stands through the fall. Keep on your better ground as this handles white mold better than anything in this maturity range,” Kyllo says.

17X21N RR2X (2.1 maturity). A Christmas tree of branches and pods. Good IDC and phytophthora resistance. Three bushels over 15R20N in 2015 proves big performance.

Soybeans — Roundup Ready 2 Yield
17R009 RR2Y (00.9 maturity). Excellent IDC tolerance, brown stem rot and phytophthora package. Very good bean for RRV soils. Too good of genetics not to bring on a new RR2Y. “Excellent bean for heavy, poorly drained soils with great IDC, Rps1c and BSR resistance,” says Kayla Voeller, northeast North Dakota/northwest Minnesota account manager.

Soybeans — LibertyLink
L02-16N LL (0.2 maturity). Very good IDC tolerance. Earliest SCN LibertyLink variety. Early vigor leads to big branches. “This bushy bean brings huge yield to this maturity. It can handle your toughest IDC with soybean cyst,” Thuringer says.
