Minnesota Farmers Union president Doug Peterson welcomed attendees to the 114th National Farmers Union Convention this weekend, held at the Radisson Blu in Mall of America.

“The last time that NFU hosted their convention in Minnesota was in 1968,” Peterson said. “We looked forward to welcoming all members of Farmers Union back to Minnesota. We expect to have a full discussion about the policies that are affecting America’s family farmers. Our discussions will build the policy that Farmers Union will use when we fight for family farmers at the legislature.”

Attendees have the option of taking a tour today and later will hear from General Wesley Clark as keynote speaker.

Numerous awards will be presented to members who have worked to build and strengthen the organization.

Breakout sessions will highlight local foods, food safety, farming grants, retirement, social media, advocacy, transitioning to organic farming and more.
