John Deere this week introduced the GT-30300 Grain Moisture Tester, featuring a hand-held design for monitoring grain condition at harvest and in storage.

The new device provides direct readout of moisture and test weight for 20 different grains in seconds, without pre-weighing the samples, the company says.

According to Barry Deiters, product manager with John Deere Merchandise, the tester measures the moisture of harvested or stored grain from 5% to 45% with repeatable accuracy to plus or minus 0.2% and test weights with repeatable accuracy of 0.5 lb. per bushel, without having to pre-weigh the samples.

The tester also measures the temperature of stored grains from 40 to 120 degrees F with repeatable accuracy to within 1 degree. Other features include a backlit LCD display, automatic temperature compensation and USB port and cord for simple software updates and downloading.

Each unit comes with an attached swiper for grain leveling and heavy-duty carrying case.

"This grain tester will hold more than 40 different grain calibrations," Deiters says, and will automatically average the operator's choice of 3, 6, or 9 sample readings.

"The GT-30300 Grain Tester is designed to provide accurate grain moisture, test weigh and temperature readings quickly and easily, without having to enter additional data or codes," Deiters adds.
