Central Plains Irrigation Conference set for Feb. 23-24

Conference in Kearney to provide updates on the latest research and technologies related to irrigation and water use.

Experts in irrigation water management and water resource issues will be speaking at the 28th annual Central Plains Irrigation Conference and Exposition Feb. 23-24 in Kearney. The meeting, hosted by Nebraska Extension in collaboration with Kansas State University and Colorado State University, will be held at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center.

In addition to the presentations, participants will have access to a broad range of companies that manufacture and market equipment used to manage and apply irrigation water.

Range of water use research updates
"Participants will hear about recent research results dealing with water use by cover crops, evaluation of different soil-monitoring equipment, accuracy of water meters, a new way of characterizing the underground aquifer and much more," said Bill Kranz, Nebraska Extension irrigation specialist who led the planning team for the conference.

Keynote speeches will be delivered by Don Kraus, general manager of the Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, and Kent Zimmerman of the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources.
