Wheat growers will be get a chance to catch up on diseases, the situation with supply and demand and the performance of several varieties when Barton County Extension agent Rick Snell hosts his annual wheat plot tour on Monday, June 1.

The tour  begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Bryan Mosier farm five miles south and seven miles east of Great Bend. The plot has 41 strips and is on the north side of SE 50 Road, just east of SE 80 Avenue.

The tour moves on to the Extension plot at Olmitz at 5:45 p.m. the plot is 1.5 miles south of Highway 4, 10 miles west of Hoisington. There are around 30 strips with several of the same variety to examine how differences in the field impact performance.

Speakers will include: Jim Shroyer, K-State agronomist from Manhattan; Erick DeWolf, K-State plant pathologist, Dan O Brien, K-State ag economist from the Northwest Area Office in Colby. They will discuss characteristics of each of the varieties, diseases, and other topics.
