Six FS member cooperatives were recognized by Growmark for business performance improvement during the annual meeting in Chicago last week.

Growmark measures the improvement in the performance of member cooperatives based on return on invested capital. Over a five-year time frame, each cooperative's return on invested capital improvement is measured in comparison to other cooperatives in the System. From this measurement, the Performance Improvement Award was developed.

The cooperative with the highest degree of improvement was TriCounty FS, Inc., Jerseyville, Ill. Dave Lewis is the manager and Joe Fessler is the president.

Ranking second was Gold Star FS, Inc., Cambridge, Ill. Steve Swanstrom is the manager and Ron Polage is the president.

In third place was Gateway FS, Inc., Red Bud, Ill. Mike Kuhn was the manager during the time period measured, and Ronald Fehr is the president.

In fourth place was Carroll Service Company, Lanark, Ill. Ramon Woessner is the manager, and Rick Groen is the president.

There was a tie for fifth place. Effingham-Clay Service Company, Effingham, Ill., now South Central FS, Inc. Randy Handel is the manager, and Todd Wachtel is the president.

Lincoln Land FS, Inc., Jacksonville, Ill., was also recognized in fifth place. Keith Hufendick was the manager for the time period measured, and Joe Pickrell is the president.
