AGCO RT series tractors get new Tier 3 engine

AGCO redesigned its RT series Generation A tractors with an improved engine, now at 6.6 liters, with injection pressure up to 24,000 psi and a four-valve-per-cylinder head that improves gas flow. “This system not only decreases emissions, it improves fuel economy, too,” says Ryan Schaefer, product marketing specialist for AGCO tractors. “The entire design of the intake, exhaust and injection system makes for better engine performance and improved economy in the field and on the road.” Both the RT140A (149-hp) and RT155A (155-hp) models come equipped with a Tier 3 CTA engine that improves intake and exhaust flow. This new design replaces the previous Tier 2 ETA engine originally introduced with the tractor series in the fall of 2005. The RT165A (165-hp) model is a completely new addition to the RT series. It comes with a larger, 7.4-liter version of the redesigned engine and provides increased power that was previously only available in the DT series tractor. All three tractors come equipped with the AGCO Auto-6 semi-powershift transmission providing 24 forward and 24 reverse speeds along with clutchless shifting. The tractors can also run at high speeds without running the engine at full throttle. “With increasing fuel prices, farmers seek to increase economy in every aspect of operation and these tractors do exactly that,” Schaefer says. Both the RT140A and the RT155A can be equipped with AGCO’s PowerMaxx continuously variable transmission, which allows variable-speed control from 0 to 32 mph, dual preset ground speeds adjustable to any terrain and an easy-to-use foot pedal. All RT tractors have a high lift capacity, up to 12,500 lbs., due to flow-compensated hydraulic systems that feature a maximum flow of 26 gpm, along with AGCO’s new 3-pt. hitch system. AGCO’s RT Generation A tractors add to operator comfort with their featured pilot injection and high-pressure common rail injection, reducing vibration and combustion noise so the engine runs quieter and smoother. They also feature an optional pneumatic cab suspension system for shock absorption, adding a smoother ride. Five tractors are available in the RT Generation A series, ranging from 100 to 165 PTO hp. Prices range from $64,827 to $106,764. The PowerMaxx continuously variable transmission option is available in all tractors in the series, except the RT165, for an additional $6,600.
