Have you been considering installing or updating your subsurface drainage system in an agricultural field to increase productivity? If you have, you may want to consider one of several new innovative technologies to improve your drainage systems and further increase your yield potential.
The Yellow Medicine Soil and Water Conservation District, in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, would like to invite you to a Conservation Drainage Field Day and Workshop.
You will have the opportunity to learn about revolutionary technologies and advancements in the field of agricultural drainage. The workshop will consist of a half-day field tour on July 31 and a daylong workshop on August 1.
Yellow Medicine S&W Hosts Conservation Drainage Field Day
During the field day, you will have the opportunity to observe a Denitrifying Woodchip Bioreactor installation and demonstration. You will also be able to see and learn about other new drainage water management techniques. These new techniques allow you to remove water from agricultural fields during times of excess rain or field traffic and the conservation of subsurface water during times of drought conditions.
The classroom workshop will consist of a series of talks given by experts in drainage water management and alternative tile systems that will span all views of these new technologies including: the science of drainage water management, design of tile systems, proper outlet placements, environmental benefits, economic and costs comparing traditional tile systems with new systems, and where to find financial assistance for the installation and retrofitting of existing tile systems.
Short breakouts sessions will allow you to choose which topics you want to learn more about and give you the opportunity to direct your questions toward experts in order to better understand the specifics of conservation drainage.
This two-day workshop starts at 12:30 p.m. at Prairies Edge Casino in Granite Falls before departing on the field day which will run from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. with a short resource fair from 4:30 until 6:30 back at Prairies Edge Casino. Participants are invited back on August 1 starting at 9:00 am for the workshop that runs until 3 p.m. The registration fee will include the bus fare to and from the field site, as well as the workshop on August 1.
The field day is free but pre-registration is required.
