It may be a long way off, but the Tilth Producers of Washington say their annual meeting is so great that they're making sure potential attendees are making long terms plans to attend the Nov. 8-10 Yakima, Wash., event.

The Tilth Producers is known among organic growers as a source of tools needed to succeed in business today. The annual conference is a touchstone for many organic growers who are looking for new ideas and methods as they network with other producers.

"The enthusiasm of organic farmers ensures a healthy future for the land and coming generations, while also providing consumers better access to organic products," notes  the  TPW.

Washingtons organic growers will hold an annual meeting in Yakimas fruit region later this year.
Washington's organic growers will hold an annual meeting in Yakima's fruit region later this year.

The conference, "Nourishing the Future: Cultivating our Farming Legacy," is often described as the largest Washington gathering of sustainable agriculture, although some may take exception since most producers today describe themselves as sustainable.

About 400 growers, business leaders, researchers, student and organic advocates are expected to attend the annual event in the Yakima Convention Center.

On deck for the meeting is the following:

•David Mas Masumoto and Nikiko Masumoto, father and daughter owners of the 4th generation Masumoto Farm. They will present a talk conveying their philosophy of land nurturing and sustainable agriculture, and conduct a workshop on  transfer of knowledge between generations.

•25 topical workshops, including Spanish sessions, focusing on beginning farmers and experienced growers. A round table discussion will also be offered.

•Poultry Livestock Symposium and a high tour.

•Organic meals and social events, a session including music, organic wine tasting, and a gathering of "organic elders."

"We pride ourselves in offering an affordable conference while also providing the highest quality workshops and networking opportunities," says Diane Dempster, TPW president.
