The U.S. corn harvest advanced to 17% as of Sunday and soybean harvest went to 20%, but both were behind the five-year averages, USDA said on Monday.

Crop development has been delayed because of a cool summer, while rain this past week interrupted the Midwest harvest.

Year-ago numbers on all crops were not available because a lapse in federal funding then prompted the cancellation of 2013 crop progress reports for the weeks ending Oct. 6 and Oct. 13.

USDA's corn rating was unchanged from a week ago at 74% good to excellent, while soybeans improved to 73% good to excellent from last week's 72%.
