Arlington youth takes third in cattle fitting contest.

The University of Minnesota captured top honors with first place in both overall team and team reasons in the Lely National Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Contest at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis.

Les Hansen, coach of the U-M dairy cattle judging team since 1981, returned to the winner's circle for the second time in his thirty-team coaching history. Also coaching the team were Scott Ellinghuysen and Alicia Thurk.

The U-M team, comprised of Nathan Donnay, Eric Houdek, Vincent Migliazzo and Matthew Hanson won in the overall team category with a score of 2,562. The team also claimed first in the team reasons category with a score of 815.

Migliazzo took top honors in the contest, achieving first place in both overall top individual and top individual reasons. Donnay placed second as overall individual and Erick Houdek placed eighth as overall individual.

UW-Madison followed in second place in overall team with a score of 2,508, and tied for second with Iowa State with a score of 812 in team reasons.

Eighteen college teams competed this year in the dairy cattle judging contest.

And in another expo competition, a Minnesota youth took third place in expo's Youth Fitting Contest.

Trevor Tuman of Arlington won the recognition and clippers from the contest sponsor, Wahl Clipper & Lister Shearing.
