An irrigated pasture field day will be held at two locations in the O’Neill and areas on July 27.
The main speaker will be R.L. Dalrymple from Ardmore, Okla., who spent 36 years with the Noble Foundation in Oklahoma as a researcher and instructor focusing on pasture management and grazing systems. He was instrumental in the development of Red River Crabgrass.
Dalrymple is active in the ownership and management of the family farm, and travels to speaking engagements at grazing and forage events around the country. The same basic grazing management principles apply no matter your location or particular forage, he says.
One tour is at the David Frerichs farm near Atkinson, from starting at 9 a.m. David has converted irrigated crop ground to irrigated pasture. He and his family operate a conventional farming operation, including row crops, hay, cow/calf and cattle feeding.
The second tour will be held at the Curt Morrow farm near O’Neill, starting at 1 p.m. He operates an irrigated and dryland hay and grazing operation with cow/calf pairs, yearlings and sheep.
