Trimble Introduces New Precision Ag Tools

Three new pieces of hardware help Trimble offer what it calls the 'Connected Farm.'

Facing a positive year in agriculture, Trimble, a longtime leader in precision agriculture components, wants you to see it as a provider of "solutions" rather than a hardware company. That goal was set out Monday at the firm's reseller meeting in Loveland, Colorado, where Trimble officials noted their goal of providing a "connected farm" to producer customers.

The 2011 product lineup is aimed at doing just that with new products designed to work with one another to give growers a connection to their farm, their crops and their equipment.

First, the CFX-750 represents the company's first touch-screen display that combines guidance, steering and precision agriculture capabilities -- including variable rate application of up to 6 inputs at once. The CFX-750 includes a built-in dual-frequency receiver compatible with all accuracy levels and satellite constellations, including GLONASS. Precise application control with single-product variable rate application is available by adding Trimble's new Field-IQ crop input control system.

Tying all things together, is Trimble's DCM-300 modem, a multipurpose unit capable of providing access to Real Time Kinematic corrections, as well as wireless data transfer to and from the field. The modem is also compatible with the company's new Farm Works Dispatch software which allows GPS tracking of individual vehicles or machines, the Connected Farm program, and VRS Now RTK services.

The DCM 300 is available in models for the Global Systems for Mobile Communication (GSM) cellular networks, such as AT&T, or Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cellular nets, such as Verizon.

Trimble's Field-IQ crop control input system has received enhanced capabilities which allow it to monitor seed delivery, fertilizer blockage and manage application of up to six variable rate products. The new talents include support for row-crop planters, air seeders, strip till and spreader platforms.
