Tour Organic Vegetable Seed Farm

Northern Plains Sustainable Ag Society hosts tour of Prairie Road Organic Farm Oct. 5.

The Northern Plains Sustainable Ag Society's final Summer Field Day will be held at Prairie Road Organic Farm near Fullerton, N.D., on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The Podolls -- David, Ginger, Dan, Theresa, Nic and Neil -- operate Prairie Road Organic Farm. . They market vegetable seed under their own label, Prairie Road Organic Seed.

The Podolls use an deep mulch, no-till and have not tilled their garden for over 30 years. Superb eating qualities and reliable workhorse varieties are the focus of their garden and seed production.

Participants will tour their family gardens and seed operation, including carrot variety trials, a pepper breeding project, a heritage wheat variety screening, and their organic seed production plot, at least what remains to be harvested, which will likely include popcorn, sweet corn, pumpkins, and squash, ending with a beet and carrot root evaluation and carrot taste testing.
