Sunflower growers in Texas have a new tool to combat rust in the crop.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted approval to the Texas Department of Agriculture for issuing a Section 18 specific exemption for use of tebuconazole (Folicur 3.6F or Embrace 3.6F) to control rust on sunflowers.

Folicur 3.6F fungicide is manufactured from Bayer CropScience. Embrace 3.6F is from Agriliance LLC. All applicable directions, restrictions, and precautions on the EPA-registered product labels must be followed, as well as restrictions within the exemption notice.

Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Susan Combs says the exemption is slated to expire Dec. 31, 2006.

Combs says applications of the Folicur 3.6F or Embrace 3.6F can only be made by certified applicators, licensed applicators or those persons under the direct supervision of a licensed applicator.
