"Soybean Diseases," the popular publication produced by Iowa State University Extension with financial help from the Iowa Soybean Association, is now available as an e-book. Released in print version in December 2010, it was written by ISU Extension specialist Daren Mueller with ISU's Corn and Soybean Initiative, and his ISU Extension colleagues Alison Robertson, plant pathologist; Greg Tylka, nematologist; and Adam Sisson of the Corn and Soybean Initiative. Funding was provided by the Iowa soybean checkoff and by ISU Extension.

The "Soybean Diseases" e-book is available at www.iasoybeans.com/productionresearch/publications/SBDiseases/. The online reference guide features full-screen, high-resolution images of 25 diseases that infect soybeans grown in Iowa.

User-friendly, interactive publication offers practical information

"The e-book version of 'Soybean Diseases' is an interactive publication, complete with animated turning pages," says Mueller. "An image enlargement is generated when the reader clicks on an illustration or photograph in the e-book. This feature makes it easier for those with only Web access to use and benefit from the detailed photographs and information in the publication."

David Wright, ISA's director of contract research, says "This e-book not only enables readers to identify disease-related problems of soybeans, it also provides management options. For instance, it includes videos of how to sample and manage two of Iowa's most troublesome pathogens, soybean cyst nematode and sudden death syndrome."

The ISU Extension Online Store offers both the e-book and printed versions of the publication. You can order by calling 515-294-5247 or going to www.extension.iastate.edu/store/. You can also order it by calling the Iowa Soybean Association at 800-383-1423.
