Hundreds of Iowa school children and community leaders recently enjoyed a visit from the Soy Biodiesel Bus during the Soy Biodiesel Trek Across Iowa on May 16 and 17. The annual bus trekked through parts of rural Iowa educating children and adults about the benefits of using a renewable, clean-burning fuel like soy biodiesel.
This year, the trek kicked off at the Perry Elementary School in Perry. Special guests included Iowa Agriculture Secretary Patty Judge and Deputy Secretary Brent Halling, as well as American Soybean Association Chairman Ron Heck.
The bus also visited fourth-graders in Boone, Carroll, Manson and Wall Lake. Each school received a certificate for free biodiesel from trek sponsors Star Energy and Diamond Oil. The children listened to biodiesel success stories, played a biodiesel trivia game to win t-shirts and bracelets, had their pictures taken in a Sunny the Soybean cutout and received free soy nuts and biodiesel stickers.
