Michigan State University Extension will be hosting educational workshops on four days in January throughout Michigan to discuss important topics that impact the transition of the weaned pig from the sow to the nursery environment.

The topics of discussion include Pig Environment Management, Timing Feed Budgets During the Transition, Quality Pig/ Off Pig management, Identification and Treatment of Sick Pigs During Transition and Euthanasia & Mortality Management.

"This is a critical time for small pigs and we want to do all we can to help them transition from nursing the sow to living in a pen with new pen mates and eating a grain based diet," said Jerry May, MSU Extension educator. "These meetings are designed to help producers better manage their small pigs and reduce stress on the pigs during the transition."
