Signup Announced for Dairy Disaster Program

Funds will help dairy producers recover production losses.

Published on: Nov 28, 2007

Signup for the Dairy Disaster Assistance Program begins Monday, Dec. 3 at local Farm Service Agency offices. DDAP-III was signed into law last May.

"This program provides $16 million to assist dairy farmers who lost milk production due to some natural disaster event," says FSA's John Johnson. "That could be something like blizzards that hit Colorado and Nebraska in January of 2007. The disaster period has to be in 2005, 2006 or 2007 up through Feb. 28 of this year."

Losses do have to be in a declared disaster county or an adjoining county. USDA provides more information on proposed DDAP-III provisions in a fact sheet at http://disaster.fsa.usda.gov.
