Shell Oil Company is now selling CE10, gasoline blended with 10% cellulosic ethanol. It's available at a gas station in Ottawa, Canada. The blend will be available for only 30 days, but its debut represents a landmark in the evolution of clean-burning transportation fuels and indicates the progress scientists are making to overcome the technical hurdles and make cellulosic ethanol competitively prices.

Local wheat straw is the feedstock used for the Shell 10% cellulosic blend, which comes from a 126,000 gallon-per-year Logan Energy Corporation demonstration plant, where the company has been working to produce cellulosic ethanol at commercial levels since 2004.
