Senate Finance to Mark up Health Care

Final draft will be released next week.

Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee Max Baucus, D-Mont., says the mark up of its version of a health care overhaul will come during the week of Sept. The final draft will be released next week. Baucus said his draft bill will be fairly similar to a framework he presented Tuesday to the other members of the "Gang of Six," three Republicans and two other Finance Democrats who have been negotiating since June in an effort to come up with a bill that can command broad bipartisan support.

That proposal made some concessions to Republicans. It omits a government-run public option in the health insurance exchange, or marketplace. After a meeting with a panel of Democrats, Baucus said he believe the public option cannot pass the Senate.

Amendments are expected from Senator John Rockefeller, D-W.Va. Rockefeller criticized concessions Baucus had made to the three GOP members of his group.
