S.D. Bucks Trend With More Corn

Planting intentions report forecasts a 3% increase.

South Dakota farmers are slightly bucking national trends in terms of planting intentions, says Alan May, South Dakota State University Extension grain marketing specialist.

The March 31 USDA Planting Intentions Report indicates that farmers nationally intend to plan less corn. South Dakota farmer says they'll plant 3% more acres to corn, for a total of 5 million acres.

May says that while there will like be fewer acres of corn and more acres of soybeans nationally this year, the shift between acres isn't likely to be as dramatic as in 2007 and 2008.
