If you have a senior heading to college, many scholarship application deadlines have already passed. But here's one you still have time to consider if you meet the qualifications. The deadline for the Co-Alliance scholarship program is March 31.

Co-Alliance LLP, a mega co-op made up of co-op partners, terms the program Solutions Scholarships. Graduating seniors can apply. The program is open to children and grandchildren of co-op members. You qualify if you're a member of any of these co-ops that fall under the Co-Alliance umbrella: Midland Co-op, IMPACT Co-op, LaPorte County Co-op, Frontier Co-op and Excel Co-op. That covers a large portion of central and northern Indiana, plus parts of Michigan and Ohio. Students from all these states who qualify via parents' or grandparents' membership can apply.

Local students in the past few years have already netted $63,000 through this program, sources say. These are one-time awards for $1,000 each. The only other requirement is that the student plans to study agriculture in the future.

There is a two-page application for the scholarship. Find it at: www.coalliance.com.

The application was also distributed to high school guidance counselors in the areas where these co-ops operate.

Co-Alliance is a leader at supporting their members, and returning dividends and patronage refunds. Since the company has remained profitable, it has been able to reward members for the past several years.

The Solutions Scholarship program is just one more way of returning money to local communities that was generated through business at co-ops in those communities. Co-Alliance CEO Kevin Still considers the scholarship program as another example of his company's investment in local communities and the future.

"Each year, these students show tremendous potential," he says. "Their dedication and passion to lead can be seen in their essays and in their achievements. We anticipate a very bright future for these local young people, and we're honored to put our financial support behind their endeavors."

An essay is part of the application process. Be sure to note the deadline March 31.
