The crowd swelled in the back corner of the South Hall at the Gin Show last Saturday afternoon as many visitors filled out last minute forms before the 3:30 deadline. They weren't vying for a new pickup, a shotgun or down-filled jacket. Instead, the coveted prize was a beautiful 3-month-old yellow Labrador puppy.

"And the winner is………Tia Thornton of Rogersvile, Ala.," announced Gin Show general manager Tim Price.

"This is perfect," Tia says. "I wanted a Lab for Christmas and didn't get it."

The Thornton family--Jason, Tia and sons Grayson and Grant--farms 3,000 acres of cotton and 300 acres of corn in north Alabama.

The Labrador puppy was provided by Jimmy McMahan of Sur-Shot Retrievers in Covington, Tenn.
