President Touts Importance of Agribusiness in Global Trade

Celebration of World Trade Week at White House highlights agriculture.

President Bush was joined on the South Lawn of the White House Friday by members of Congress and the Cabinet to celebrate World Trade Week. Among those present was Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer.

"His being here sends a message that the American farmer and rancher expects us to work hard to open up markets for the products they grow," Bush said.

On display during the President's speech was a tractor and several other farm based products emphasizing the importance of agribusiness to U.S. trade around the world. The President used the opportunity to discuss various trade and economic issues including several pending free trade agreement before Congress.
