Winter is the season for catching up on finances and preparing for the coming crop year.

To help you prepare for 2014, AgEngage is hosting a conference in Decatur that focuses on fading commodity prices, cash rents, marketing enigmas and pest problems.

Answers, solutions, and recommendations for those challenges will be offered Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Farming 2014 Conference: Managing Risks, Markets, and Operations.

Five speakers will be on the morning agenda to help keep farmers' profitability in the black. Their topics include:  2014 financial concerns, crop insurance options, understanding Farm Bill alternatives, the outlook for commodity prices, and marketing strategies for corn and soybeans.  Those will be addressed by University of Illinois and industry specialists.

Five more speakers in the afternoon will provide an overview of agronomic issues, and raising efficiencies in farm management.  With growing failure of corn rootworm controls and the growing threat of Palmer amaranth, University of Illinois specialists will counsel farmers on addressing those concerns and preparing for spring fieldwork.  Other industry speakers will help farmers retain quality of stored grain while still in the bin and improve the efficiency and performance of their combine.

The conference, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., is sponsored by ADM Crop Risk Services and presented by AgEngage.  Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The conference will offer numerous table top exhibitors with a wide variety of products and services for the 2014 cropping season.  All sessions will be the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel, 4191 W. Hwy. 36, Decatur, IL, 62522.  For more details and to pre-register, visit:  www.AgEngage.com/farming2014.
