The Pork Safety Committee of the National Pork Board recently sanctioned the American Feed Industry Association's Safe Feed/Safe Food Certification Program, an exclusive third party-certified feed safety program. The program is designed to ensure strict standards of safety and quality are met in the production of livestock feed and pet food. This program is unique and voluntary  and has certified about 330 feed and ingredient-related facilities in the U.S. and Canada. AFIA's program is open to livestock feed manufacturers, meat processors and livestock producers who want to validate a commitment to food safety through pro-active leadership.

AFIA President and CEO Joel Newman says the committee's endorsement means a lot to those who work to make pork a safe, nutritious and healthy food. Newman is pleased the committee decided to endorse the program because he believes it will help facilities achieve the highest levels of feed safety.

Barb Determan, a member of the Pork Safety Committee, says the committee supports programs addressing the safety of feed manufacturing and that the Pork Checkoff will encourage producers to use the Safe Feed/Safe Food materials.
