The U.S. Pork Center of Excellence has launched the new program within the Pork Information GatewayWeb site. It can be found at missouri.porkgateway.com, reports Don Nikodim, Missouri Pork Association executive vice president.
"This program will provide one location for individuals from around the U.S. to learn about community colleges and universities that offer swine science courses, careers in the pork industry and internships currently available," says the center’s executive director David Meisinger.
Components to PIG Opportunities include:
1. Careers in Pork - List of careers possible in the pork industry including experience needed, duties of the position and skill requirements.
2. Academics -- College and institutions sections provide lists of educational institutions that offer swine science courses within their curriculum.
3. Listing of current internships available in the pork industry.
Employers, universities and community colleges are invited to share their opportunities in the swine industry free of charge in PIG Opportunities by contacting Sarah Beaman at email@example.com.
The U.S. Pork Center of Excellence, established in 2005, is a public/private partnership bringing together academic expertise in research, teaching and extension related to pork production. The National Swine Research and Information Center on the Iowa State University campus in Ames houses the center.
