Oklahoma Sorghum Series Slated For 11 Counties

Grain sorghum production and marketing opportunities will be the focus of the Northwest Oklahoma Grain Sorghum Educational Program Series.

The 2013 Northwest Oklahoma Grain Sorghum Educational Program Series will be held in 11 counties during the work week of Jan. 28 through Feb. 1.

The education program series is designed to provide information to producers regarding both production and marketing opportunities for grain sorghum.

Topics of the series will include sorghum production information, nitrogen use efficiency, and grain sorghum nutrient needs in dry weather, along with at look some weed control management strategies and climate effects on grain sorghum yields.

The series also will examine crop insurance as a marketing tool for sorghum producers.

Speakers will include Rick Kochenower, Brian Arnall, Roger Don Gribble and Rodney Jones from the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service.

Kochenower, OCES area agronomist, will address grain sorghum production. Jones will look at crop insurance planning. Arnall will discuss sorghum fertility, and Gribble will examine weed control options. Also on this year's educational program series, Sue Ann Claudon, compliance director for the sorghum check-off, will talk about some of the recent check-off program highlights.
