A group of North Dakota wheat growers have organized to support development of biotech wheat.
Allan Skogen, Valley City wheat producer and chairman of Growers For Biotech Wheat (GWB), says their core message are that:
1) Foods derived from crops enhanced through biotechnology are absolutely safe for consumers, and regulatory processes are in place to insure that safety.
2) Biotechnology offers great benefits for our environment.
3) Biotechnology offers additional benefits for consumers, processors and producers, now and in the future.
The group has launched a Web site to provide general information about wheat biotechnology and monitor international developments on the biotechnology front.
Visitors to the site can sign up to receive a free email digest of news summaries from the Web site. The address is www.growersforwheatbiotechnology.org.
GWB also will distribute information through the media about wheat biotechnology and provide speakers for meetings and other events.
