Three young Texans made a clean sweep of the top three slots in the national 2012 Delo Tractor Restoration Competition, and the top spot was a "twofer" for Ryan Haass from Devine, Tex.
Haass, who restored a 1970 Case 1070 this year, also won the grand prize for 2011. This year's first prize was $10,000.
The Delo Tractor Restoration Competition has been an annual tradition since 1995 rewarding determination, mechanical skills and business practices of high school-aged FFA members whose projects are the restoration of an antique tractor, says Channing Reeder, Chevron Products Co., marketing director.
Chevron is the maker of Delo heavy-duty motor oils.
Second place in the 2012 Delo competition was Colin Graff, Hondo FFA, for his restoration of a 1950 John Deere A. He received $5,000.
Third place, and $3,000, went to Matt Mahler, Iowa Park FFA, for his restoration of a 1955 Ford 850.
