Acramite 4SC miticide, a new liquid formulation of the active ingredient, bifenazate, from Chemtura Corporation, has been registered by the U.S. EPA and by the California DPR for control of mites on tuberous and corm vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, etc.) and the succulent pea group.
The new miticide controls a broad spectrum of mite pests with highly specific activity, including the key mite pests on potatoes and succulent peas, the Tetranychus or webspinning spider mites like the two-spotted spider mite.
Noteworthy for its proven safety to beneficial insects and predatory mites, it is ideal for use in IPM programs. To prevent resistance build-up, the label limits use to one application per season. The REI (Restricted Entry Interval) for all vegetable crops is 12 hours. PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval) is 14 days on potatoes and just 3 days on succulent peas.
Acramite 4SC offers growers highly effective mite control in a convenient, easy-to-measure liquid formulation. It also offers a new class of chemistry for mite control, which disrupts insects' nervous systems to provide fast-acting performance on motile mites at application, as well as excellent residual control of newly hatching nymphs.
This is a reduced risk chemical with no special personal protective equipment requirements. Workers can wear normal work clothing for mixing and application and use does not require posting or a Notice of Intent.
Acramite 4SC should be applied to mite populations prior to reaching damaging thresholds. It can be applied by ground or air and requires sufficient volume to obtain thorough coverage for contact activity. Good spray coverage is essential for optimal results.
