The Environmental Protection Agency has approved Prowl H2O herbicide for weed control in pome and stone fruit and in all alfalfa crops. The product was previously registered for seed alfalfa and non-bearing fruit crops.

BASF produces Prowl H2O, a pre-emergent residual herbicide meant to provide weed control for a variety crops, including both conventional and glyphosate-tolerant alfalfa crops.

Jon Sweat, the product's Market Manager, points out that "alfalfa is particularly susceptible to problems with weed control," and says that Prowl H2O "controls the weeds and grasses that shorten stand life, hinder yields, and adversely affect hay quality."

"Pome and stone fruit growers especially need a tough solution for weed management issues in their orchards to protect young, developing trees," Sweat adds.

The herbicide, which is already registered for over 90 crops, has a water-based formulation meant to help it leave more active ingredient available for weed control.
