MSU Meat Judging Team Finishes Season In Nebraska

Overall, the team ranked fourth of 16 teams, making it the most successful MSU Meat Judging Team since 1985.

The Michigan State University Meat Judging Team wrapped up its season on Nov. 25 at the International Intercollegiate Meat Evaluation Contest in Dakota City, Neb.

Team members were:  Lane Carpenter (Charlotte), Julie Feldpausch (Hastings), Audrey Ing (Milan) and Kelsey Steketee (Caledonia). Alternates were Emily Mitchell (Hudsonville), Molly O'Brien (Flushing), Patrick Owens (Midland) and Andrew Weaver (Midland).

International Intercollegiate Meat Evaluation Contest, Nov. 25 results:

•Steketee, a junior animal science major, ranked first in pork judging, tied for fifth in •specifications, placed seventh in reasons and ranked ninth overall.

• Ing, a senior animal science major, tied for sixth in placings.
•Carpenter, a senior animal science major, tied for 10TH in beef grading.
•O'Brien, a junior animal science major, ranked seventh overall in the alternate division.

The MSU team ranked second in lamb judging, fourth in pork judging, fourth in placings and sixth in beef grading during the team competition.

Overall, the team ranked fourth of 16 teams, making it the most successful MSU Meat Judging Team since 1985.

"Traveling across the nation with fun team members and practicing at different universities under the direction of an amazing coach is the greatest part about this opportunity," said junior animal science major Feldpausch.

Feldpausch's time and energy commitments have enabled her to improve at the end of each practice or competition, she said. She added that she feels this progression is very rewarding.
