Montana Farm Service Agency officials remind growers that they have until Sept. 30 to sign up for the 2008 Direct and County-cyclical Program.
All signatures to shares of the contract must be received by the close of business that day, concluding a sign-up period which began June 25.
Commodities covered via DCP include wheat, corn, grain sorghum – including dual purpose varieties that can be harvested as grain – barley, oats, soybeans, canola, flaxseed, mustard, safflower, crambe, sesame seed, rapeseed and sunflower (oil and non-oil types).
Base adjustments will be made for expired and voluntarily terminated DCP contract acreage. Base acreage, however, may not be more than the available DCP crop land acreage on each farm.
A producer with the sum of the base acreage on the farm with 10 acres or less must be a socially disadvantaged or limited-resource farmer to be eligible for DCP.
Direct and count-cyclical payments for the 2008 crop year will be made on 85% of base. Final direct payments will be issued next month.
Direct payment rates are:
Barley: 24-cents per bushel
Corn: 28-cents per bushel.
Grain sorghum: 35-cents per bushel.
Oats: 24-cents per bushel.
Other oilseeds: 80-cents per hundredweight
Soybeans: 44-cents per bushel.
Wheat: 52-cents per bushel.
Planting flexibility is allowed including planting restrictions for fruits and vegetables on base acreage without farm or producer history. Producers must meet Highly Erodible Land and Wetland provisions, report all crop land acres, meet actively-engaged in farming and person determination requirements, and comply with the adjusted gross income provisions of the program.
