It is time to make comments on how gas and oil leases will be distributed in Montana. All statements are due by Oct. 28.
The quarterly oil and gas lease sale by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation will be held on Dec. 6. Nominations for the sales have been received, and now the agency is asking ranchers and others to make their comments on the proposed actions.
The only activity under discussion at this time is issuing leases for possible future exploration and production, says Monte Mason, DNRC Minerals Management bureau chief.
"Before any activity occurs, DNRC will prepare an environmental review," he explains.
The state Board of Oil and Gas must also review and issue permits before activity can occur.
A map and a detailed list of tracts being considered may be obtained by calling Mason at (406) 444-2074. Information is also available on the department’s Web site at www.dnrc.mt.gov/trust/mmbog.htm.
Comments may be submitted in writing to Mason at DNRC, PO Box 201601, 1625 Eleventh Avenue, Helena, Mont., 59620-1601.
