Monsanto officials told members of the cotton-related media this week they plan to seek re-registeration of Bollgard technology in 2006 when the current label expires.
Speaking to about 30 members of the ag press and broadcast corps, Walt Mullins, Monsanto entomologist and technical lead on Bollgard technology, says as long as the varieties containing Bollgard technology are high performers for producers the company will continue to seek its registration. He says the 2006 re-registration could last for five years.
"We want to give growers the choice, regardless of the introduction of newer technology in Bollgard II," Mullins explains. "We also expect to continue offering better varieties in Bollgard II, but we do plan to re-register the original BT cotton when it comes up for renewal late this year."
Mullins was speaking to invited guests at a Monsanto Cotton Update in St. Louis.
