Monsanto Extends Cotton Performance Plus Program

Company will give rebates up to $12 for residual products.

A pilot program that Monsanto introduced in 2008 in the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama to combat the growing problem of weed resistance, particularly glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth, has been extended and expanded in 2009.

In its new Roundup Ready Cotton Performance Plus program Monsanto will pay rebates of up to $12 to growers of Roundup Ready and Roundup Ready Flex products who use select residual herbicide products from their own stable of products or from competing manufacturers.

Pre-plant chemistries in the Roundup Ready Cotton Performance Plus program include Valor (2 oz), which is eligible for a Monsanto rebate of $5.50 per acre; or Reflex (16 oz), eligible for $5.50 per acre; or Cotoran (2 pts), which is eligible for $3 per acre.

Early Post product rebates in the program include $5.50 an acre for PARRLAY herbicide (1.3 pts); or $3 per acre for Dual Magnum (1 pt).

Direx (32 oz) used at lay-by is eligible for a rebate of $1 per acre.

Thirteen qualifying states for the Roundup Ready Cotton Performance Plus Program include; South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi and Missouri.
