Milk producers who are eligible and interested in running for a director seat on the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board (WMMB) have until Feb. 24, to submit a nomination form to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
According to DATCP officials, a nominee must be an active dairy producer who sells milk into commercial channels and lives in the district up for election. This year, DATCP is accepting nomination forms from dairy producers in the following eight districts (outlined by counties):
District 2 Florence, Forest, Langlade, Marinette, Oconto, Vilas
District 5 Dunn and St. Croix
District 8 Marathon
District 11 Outagamie and Winnebago
District 14 Jackson, La Crosse, Trempealeau
District 17 Calumet and Manitowoc
District 20 Richland and Sauk
District 23 Iowa and Lafayette
Each candidate must submit a completed nomination form and have the "Affidavit of Eligibility" (on the nomination form) notarized. In addition, nominees must acquire at least five signatures from active dairy producers who reside in the represented district.
After nominations have been certified, DATCP will hold a mail-in ballot election April 9-28. Results of the election will be announced later in May.
Elected directors will then serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2015.
