Fifty-three buyers bought 79 superior performing bulls with top sale bringing $5,750.

Fifty-three buyers bought superior performing bulls that were evaluated for growth, structural soundness, disposition and reproductive potential. The goal has been to assist beef producers by offering bulls that have been evaluated in a common environment for growth, breeding and structural soundness and carcass merit.

Seventy-nine bulls, representing five breeds, had a record breaking gross total of $230,850 to average $2,922. The top selling animal was the Lot 109 Simmental bull owned by Plank Simmental Farm, from Crystal, and was purchased by Trent Hilding in Edmore, MI for $5,750. Other top selling animals included: Lot 8 Angus bull owned by Apple Hill Angus of Harrisville, MI, sold to Anthony Mieske from Linwood, MI for $5,500; Lot 82 Simmental Bull bred by Lattimore Cattle Co. of Rodney, MI, sold for $5,400 to MI State University; Lot 9 Angus bull consigned by Apple Hill Angus, also went to Anthony Mieske for $5,250; Lot 59 Angus bull from KB Farms, LLC, sold to Michael Gasper of Saranac, MI, for $5,200; Bordner Farms, LLC of Sturgis, sold the Lot 53 Angus bull to Thomas Gallagher of Carson City, MI, for  $5,100; and  the Lot 104 Simmental bull, consigned by Plank Simmental Farm, sold to Nick Hagen from Ubly, MI for $5,000. Mark Sears, from Horton, was the volume buyer when he purchased six bulls.

The sale results were as follows: 46 Angus bulls averaged $2.997, 4 Red Angus bulls averaged $2,550, 2 Charolais bulls averaged $2,250, 4 Herefords averaged $3,375 and 23 Simmentals averaged $2,817. Many of the bulls sold to repeat buyers from previous MCA-MSU Bull Evaluation sales.

The 2013 MCA Bull Evaluation Program is held in cooperation with Michigan State University. The bulls were managed at the Plank Farm in Crystal, MI.
