The 2013 Maryland Commodity Classic is set for July 25 at Queen Anne's 4-H Park, Centreville, Md. But the morning program line-up will not be the usual research tour at the Wye Research Center.

New to the Commodity Classic will be a morning of pesticide recertification sessions where checkoff-funded projects will be presented at the 4-H Park. The session will offer private and category 4 (seed treatment) applicators the opportunity to obtain all four required continuing education credits, and individuals in categories 1A and 10 (ag plant, regulatory and demonstration and research) can receive four of their eight required CEUs.

The afternoon program includes keynote speaker Economist and Futurist Dr. Jay Lehr. Lehr combines five decades of experience in ag economics, agronomy, environmental science and business with a contagious enthusiasm for the future of the U.S. farmer. His presentation will address today's hot ag topics based on true science.

Lehr's five decades of expertise and experience in ag economics, agronomy, environmental science and business administration lend hard facts to his beliefs in a bright future for American farm exports, sustainable energy and the environment, plus bio-fuels and long-term safety of biotech advances.

Emcee for the event will be Joanne Clendining, new host of the Maryland Farm and Harvest television series. The Commodity Classic is hosted by the Maryland Grain Producers Association, Maryland Soybean Board, Maryland Grain Producers Utilization Board and the Mid-Atlantic Soybean Association.

Lunch and informational displays will be set up at 11 a.m. The business meeting and afternoon program begins at 1:00 p.m. and concludes with the famed Crab Feast, Pork and Chicken Barbecue.

Entry prior to 2:30 p.m. is $10. After 2:30 p.m. the entry fee is $20, with no entry after 3:30 p.m. For ticket information, contact the MGPA office at 410-956-5771.
