In the weather department, Husker Harvest Days experienced a little bit of everything this year, hot, wet and mild. That didn't deter visitors for making the trip to see the world's largest working irrigated farm show.
Despite corn at HHD being planted the latest in recent history, the crop was ready to be harvested during the show. Combining demos continue to be a highlight of the show each year and attract crowds of visitors from around the world.
This year, the first subsurface drip irrigation system was installed at Husker Harvest Days. This unit was located in the technology plots (strip till demo area), southeast of the exhibit field next to Husker Highway.
Several companies exhibiting at Husker Harvest Days supported community projects during the show. Monsanto, in conjunction with Farm Progress and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, sponsored the fifth annual America's Farmers Food Drive at Husker Harvest Days. The food drive collected 13,434 pounds of food for food pantries in the Grand Island area. 86 FFA chapters and 4-H clubs in Nebraska participated in the America's Farmers Food Drive.
Each year, Titan Tire Corporation donates hundreds of farm tires for auctions that benefit local chapters of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). This year, Titan added Husker Harvest Days to the list of events at which the company sponsors an auction. Titan donated a total of 74 tires which raised $38,760 for the local FFA chapter.
