Netherlands-based Lely Group has selected Fisher & Thompson of Leola, Penn., as its first U.S. dealership for robotic milking equipment. Fisher & Thompson will sell and service in New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and eastern and central Pennsylvania, primarily south of Route I-80.
The company operates branches in Belleville, Chambersburg, Martinsburg, Mifflinburg, Troy and Wyalusing. News of other dealerships in New York and the Northeast is forthcoming, according to Peter Langebeeke, president of Lely USA.
Fisher & Thompson's mission is to provide its dairy customers with innovative products that are technologically superior, says Rick Thompson, president and co-owner. "Our new arrangement with Lely fits perfectly into our mission." As a Lely Center dealer, Fisher & Thompson will sell the new Astronaut A3, as well as handle installation, maintenance and service calls with Lely-certified technicians.
Tomorrow's labor-saving technology has arrived
In 2006 alone, more 1,000 A3s were sold worldwide. "Lely's robotic milking technology has changed the dairy farming industry around the world. The Astronaut A3 robotic milking system enables one person to easily milk more than 2-million pounds per year," adds Langebeeke.
According to Langebeeke, the Astronaut A3 directly addresses the labor issues that have moved to the forefront of challenges for U.S. dairy farmers. "The A3 represents the most consistent, reliable employee imaginable," he adds. "As a member of the farm team – one that works 24 hours a day, seven days a week – the Astronaut essentially frees farmers from labor-intensive milking and allows more time to focus on improving other aspects of the dairy operation, such as herd health and breeding, as well as crop work and feeding programs."
The A3 will be in the Fisher & Thompson booth at the Keystone Farm Show in York, Pa., January 9-11. You can also see it at the New York Farm Show in Syracuse, February 22-24. More information about the A3 is available at www.lely.com or by calling 1-866-LELYUSA.
