Korea Delays Talks with Canada

Japan still deciding whether to halt imports with Canada due to latest BSE find in Alberta.

postponed trade resumption talks with Canada after Monday's news of another case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy in Alberta.

Talks originally scheduled for February were postponed, with no new date specified.

Japanese officials say they are studying the current Canadian BSE case, but have not made up an official decision on whether Canadian beef imports to Japan would be affected.

Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns says the United States does not plan on reinstating a ban on U.S. beef. However, the National Farmers Union and R-CALF USA called on USDA this week to reevaluate the ban since two of Canada's five cases were born in the first few years following the feed ban.
