J.J. Jones To Address Agribusiness Council of Sedgwick County

Opportunities in international markets will be focus of address to council by Department of Agriculture marketing and trade director.

The January networking lunch for the Agribusiness Council of Sedgwick County has been set for the last day of the month in Wichita. It will feature J.J. Jones, marketing and trade director, Kansas Department of Agriculture as main speaker.

Jones' topic for the meeting will be "Ninety-six percent… What does it mean for U.S. agriculture?" During the talk, Jones will present a review of opportunities in international markets based on growing middle-class populations and the demand for higher quality, safer foods. He will discuss programs and services from various private and public organizations that may help farms, ranches and agribusinesses reach international customers.

About Jones

Jones is a native of Rawlins County where he grew up on a diversified farm and ranch. He studied Animal Science and Industry as well as International Agriculture at Kansas State University. Past experience includes Cargill, Inc. in their Animal Nutrition division, the Kansas Beef Council, Kansas Grain & Feed Association and Seaboard Foods prior to being the marketing and trade director at the Kansas Department of Agriculture.

Jones has led over 20 international trade missions and coordinated buyers' missions to Kansas and the U.S. for buyers from over 30 countries – all activities are designed to provide opportunities for Kansas farms, ranches and agribusinesses to market their products and services around the world.

In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for U.S. Livestock Genetic Export, Inc., the Export Advisory Council for the Food Export Association of the Midwest and on the High Value Markets Committee for the U.S. Sorghum Checkoff.

Jones is an active member of the Kansas City Agribusiness Council where he serves on the Board of Directors, the American Royal Association, the Kansas FFA Alumni Association, National FFA Alumni Association, National Agri-Marketing Association and Country Club Christian Church. 

This month's meeting will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Larkspur Bistro, 904 E. Douglas Ave. in the Wichita Old Town district. The cost for the luncheon is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
