ISU Extension Selects Regional Directors in Restructuring Plan

Iowa State University names the 20 regional Extension directors for Iowa, as major reorganization announced last month gets underway.

Twenty regional Extension education directors have been selected for Iowa State University Extension as part of the major restructuring plan that was announced last month by ISU and approved by the state Board of Regents.

On June 25 Jack Payne, vice president for ISU Extension and Outreach, announced the names of the 20 regional Extension directors and the counties their regions will cover. The regional director positions were created as a result of significantly large state budget cuts in the 2009 Legislative session forcing a major restructuring of the ISU Extension Service.

ISU Extension is moving from a geographic-based system to an issues-based approach to delivering ISU Extension programming and resources. There will still be an ISU Extension office in each of Iowa's 99 counties with a staff person present to answer questions and help the public find information and the ISU specialists and other sources who can answer their questions. But there will no longer be a county Extension director in each county office.
